Sondering From My balcony

Hello

Are you familiar with the word 'Sonder'? It is a word coined by John Koeig that captures that profound revelation when you realize every person you encounter is living a life equally complex and often as chaotic as your own.

I had a moment of sonder this past week while sitting on my balcony watching the rush hour traffic. (The picture is a calm Sunday morning not the bumper to bumper of weekday commuters.) It struck me that every person in every car whooshing by has a tale to tell with its own story line, host of characters, and table of contents.

It reminded me of a TV show back in the day called "The Naked City" (Screen Gems 1958 - 1963). It was a dramatic crime series done in a semi-documentary format. I can still hear the narrator, Lawrence Dobkin, iconic ending to each episode.

"There are eight million stories in the Naked City. This has been one of them."

Now I must admit eight million cars did not pass by but there were a lot and it boggled my mind as I sondered on what some of their stories might be. And the fact that no two stories are alike.

What is your story? Is each chapter unfolding as it should or have you lost the plot. I would love to hear from you. Susan@susanleon.com.
